Nicolás Bleyh: my career at Accenture Technology Solutions

My name is Nicolas and I'm Bleyh since July 2008, at Accenture Technology Solutions. Before that I studied computer science at the TU Dresden media and worked then 22 months at a software company. Due to lack of perspectives and variety I then decided to seek a new challenge for Accenture.

The start

The one-hour interview with 2 Accenture employees went smoothly, so I joined Accenture Technology Solutions as an experienced hire nothing stood in the way. After I for two days on the Orientation Seminar in Kronberg admitted into the secrets of my new professional home was, I waited anxiously for my first project assignment. This 2-week waiting period I use for completion of some of the many e-learning, the Accenture offers to its employees.

The first project

Then it went off at last, and that at a European bank in the Capital Markets area. The task of the project was to introduce the bank a new trading system for interest rate derivatives and securities. I was assigned to the integration team, whose task was to create functional designs for the various interfaces to the new trading system. Now I have to say I prior to this project are not great experience and knowledge in Banking and Capital Markets area had. Hence the first few weeks were marked by that, to familiarize myself with the rather complex new material. I would not see my role as a typical ATS role, as the focus clearly on the functional area and was not on the technical area. Precisely because of these challenges has made the project with a lot of fun. There was also a high level of international (the team consisted of members from four different nations, the project work took place both in Germany and in Italy from) and a high degree of interaction with other teams and the customer. So had created functional interface concepts with be in charge of the respective department discussed, debated and ultimately by the appropriate department also declined.

The second project

For my second and current project, I moved back to the same customer. This time it was, however, to further develop a risk management system that had to be added to credit reports in relation to the Basel 2 requirements for many functions. The department created this concept, what the development team had to implement them. Technologies have been there, especially Java and SQL. This was not a pure Accenture team, but a mixed team of ATS colleagues internal employees as well as other external developers. In contrast to my first project here, the focus was so much on the technical side, although I naturally acquire the technical basis and terms of credit risks had. Also on this project I feel very comfortable because I am involved in the preparation of technical concepts, self-responsible solutions can implement and expand my technical skills.

Conclusion

Regardless of the project work at ATS offer additional opportunities to participate in activities and to get involved. Thus, there are several events each year, through which all ATSler local or Germany-wide level. Other areas where you can participate in are, for example, the Shaping of the recruiting or training.

As a conclusion to my previous experience with ATS I can only say: I wanted a change, challenges and excitement, and I get it.

First Contact
My first contact with Accenture, I had already in early 2007. Through a friend I was on the company attention and stood there in my studies nor the internship on the agenda, I attended the "open door" to me closer to inform about the company. It quickly became clear to me that the professional image of the IT consultant is right for me and an internship a great way represented to confirm this.

Two months later

morning I sat next to many other Businessmen in suits in the orbit. It was my first day at work and I was promised an internship on a large project. The title of the position was "developer for a large logistics companies sought international environment." I was pretty excited because I have so far in a 3-man company was active. It has now been used in a team with 10 employees, which in turn belonged to a cluster with 50 employees. Despite this size, I was immediately accepted as a full member of the team and my colleagues could immediately elaborate on current issues. My first real experience of success was the active support in the timely completion of an application.
After the internship

My work during the internship has given me much joy, I learned a lot and had both the work and then a lot of fun with colleagues. A little sad I saw the end of that time come closer and closer, until one day my team leader was unexpectedly at my desk and asked me if I would not like to write my thesis on the project. This means: Next in a great team work, have the freedom to experiment half a year with new technologies and the well-known even in an environment. Clear that I accepted the offer without hesitation. My thesis was entitled "Evaluation of Ajax frameworks for existing JEE applications. In April 2008 a personal copy was on the desk of my professor and my team leader.
After the thesis
In the last days of my diploma time my team leader came again to my desk. There I was quite relieved, was on one side to one year of experience to look back on a major project and was on the other side of my degree in my pocket. He made the offer to continue to stay on the project. Accenture had expressed interest that I have the team on the project in the long to reinforce sight ...

Today

I'm still on the same project. The unexpected here: everything is interesting and exciting than ever before, I believed a year ago to know already all the processes and tasks, I quickly became a better informed. Today, in addition to the many other tasks within applications to my work. Including eg coordination and harmonization of onshore and offshore teams, technical support from five different production line, and the development of a new application along with an international team.
The future ...

will soon be the first "Go Live" of an application where I could be responsible for the design and development. Now is already been some time now I have two years of professional experience, and yet every day feels a bit like the time: there are always fun and exciting experience at Accenture.
way, there is also another new intern in our team, which I look after other things. He was like I was directly involved in the work and help the team very energetic in its support.

Who knows, maybe someday you read his report here in the Accenture recruiting weblog.

Until then ... best regards, Steffen

Green Dot On Computer Monitor

Steffen Grimm: Wanted ... found - from internships with Accenture on the thesis through to a career.

In the last two entries I had stated that IPM stands for an effective IT governance, IT-software-based decision makers make the right decisions.

My review IPM series ends with a description of how I could express myself through IPM academically and professionally - and it can continue.

have input I mention that I am part of a thesis for the first time with Accenture (and IPM) have come into contact. This was followed in addition to those described in the second part of projects, further scientific studies, the IPM in close cooperation with the University of Leiden in the Netherlands regularly performs. Often, my colleagues and I, assisted by trainee graduates, which we gave in return for their cooperation a thesis together with Accenture were - just one hand washes the other.

These studies have one hand I helped my memory to the jumps ("What else is equal to a chi-square test?"), On the other hand, but also many that I can draw up hitherto unknown academic concepts.

The training in IPM methods that is probably relevant in the regular project activities, never came too: As an IT strategist, I visited Software training to to better understand what my client software for the design of an IT governance expected another.

I was offered not only the opportunity to look outside the box and learn new things, but let me sufficient freedom to choose my content IPM to focus and deepen it.

This will also recognition: If a large software manufacturer a small circle of experts before a new software that might be relevant to IPM, I, as Subject Matter Expert (SME) sent to them to assess their suitability as IPM.

Finally, I thank for the interest and pay tribute to the purpose of this blog tribute and summarize why Accenture - and of course, IPM - is of interest to applicants:

software-based IT governance has been an integral part of is "CIO Agenda" and itself offers young professionals an access channel to IT decision-makers.

The interaction of design and software solution allows an individual preference of the own activity: more software, more concept - or both?

IPM is Accenture's core idea is: we are the design and implementation are inextricably linked. Solutions we propose to our customers, and are therefore feasible in principle.

Accenture's IPM practice is young and growing increasingly faster. We are looking for real entrepreneurs who want to create their niche with us. You're such a co-maker? Until then ... best greetings

Clemens Hofmann Accenture together IT governance concepts and software to IT decision-makers to help IT investments can be made to document in line with corporate strategy.

In this issue I put forward three projects to fill the stories of the first part of life:

The example of an international electronics and electrical engineering group shows, what with IPM in the IT Service Lifecycle Management anything is possible.

How IPM implemented special software to the software project management of a large German insurer with IT governance to support methods, shows the second example.

Finally, I sketch in a third case that IPM and off the IT domain is available: For a large Nutzmaschinenhersteller we were working to product management - from development to finished product - software to support each other.

said international electronics and electrical engineering group operates most of its IT as a shared service organization, can be supplied in from as few centers distributed all over the globe with offices worldwide IT services. The complete service lifecycle, ie the development, worldwide launch, and basic Dekomissionierung Coordination of service delivery is controlled by the German headquarters.

The large number of IT services and regional variations can be due to their complexity, with spreadsheet-based management does not look longer, let alone control. IPM Accenture was asked to work out a solution to the highly complex IT service lifecycle management.
  • In several project phases, we have developed in continuous consultation with the client processes and structures for portfolio management, an existing software solution expands the customer's Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are defined. Accenture's client was thus able, to create the spreadsheet-based management shelved, an IT service to take care of the development and implementation to decommissioning and beyond the global shared service centers for the first time with in the decision. This was just one of many projects the CoP IPM.
  • In another case, we supported a large German insurance here, the software project management established a special IT Governance software to underpin.
  • goal was to make every software project of the customer in all stages of development and displayed depending on the viewer the exact information required to represent. For example, a project member would like to register his paid hours, a project manager level to assess the progress of individual project components and track a portfolio manager with a view to the context of entire projects.
  • the customer, while acknowledging some of the IT resources available for this project, a very tight schedule, however, required a rapid support from an Accenture IPM project team. A joint team from Accenture colleagues, and employees of the customer took care of the timely implementation of the software. Accenture also took advantage of his good contacts with the appropriate software vendor to introduce a module for performing detailed earned value analysis, advanced forecasts of accomplishment for a project permit.
But put beyond that shown so far projects in the IT department through the solutions of Accenture's IPM Group: For a large Nutzmaschinenhersteller led my colleagues specific IT governance is an application to support the customer's product processes. All steps, beginning with the planning and development of new heavy equipment to publication and marketing of the product should be represented in a single software solution. Classical ERP software reaches its limits here, because the project-like development occupies many levels of IT governance concepts and only this helped to break through.
Because of their experience could put all my colleagues targeted customer requirements and the success of their work, just look out the window - enjoy - towards truck test track.

this I close my second post and I am now give me the next and final part a brief overview of the research and development opportunities for you to IPM.
Accenture Alumni Congress in November 2008. At Accenture, there was a wide-advertised competition around the Graduates Congress. Of course I did not let me take to participate. I had hopes of winning of course, but a bit of luck I had hoped! ?. Long story - I won the trip to Nice. And this I would like blogging much.

on Wednesday (27/05/2009) we have already started in the morning from Dusseldorf to Nice, where we landed around 13:00 clock in bright sunshine. Despite a lack of knowledge of French before we could take the car in reception and booked us on a path to the hotel. Driving in the Côte Riviera is truly an experience! The people are very relaxed, take it with overtaking, flashing & Co. is not as serious as we are German. There are almost exclusively one-way streets in Nice and the roads are much narrower than here. After a good hour and a small (unplanned) city tour, we found our hotel, however, put our stuff into the room and after a short pause and refresh it immediately went into the old town. The architecture is really beautiful, many facades are decorated in Baroque and Rococo style and the "Belle Epoque
", but there are many small streets and a vast variety of plants.
  • The next day (28.05.2009) began with a trip to Cannes, Antibes Juan les Pines. The group was very small (7 people), the driver and tour guide for 8 years including Pierre had been living in Berlin, knew a lot and to tell interesting and gave us some tips that were not found in guidebooks dealing with authorities. First, we strolled into Cannes along the Boulevard de la Croisette, could still admire the remains of Film Festival and watch in glorious sunshine, boutiques, restaurants and the impressive hotels (Hilton, Carlton, etc.). Then our tour to Juan les Pines, by its beautiful beaches and to Antibes. There we could enjoy the examples of large yachts up close. Antibes is a small town with lots of typical French sized business (olives, cheese, ceramic) and a beautiful Mediterranean market. After this tour it first went to the beach, soak up some sun. The Mediterranean was surprisingly warm, so we obviously did not take us to swim a lap. The evening was a trip to Monaco / Monte Carlo reserved. We decided to take it for a bit longer but more beautiful route along the coast and stopped several times to walk a bit and take some pictures. Monaco / Monte Carlo many grandstands and fences of the Grand Prix could be seen, only a few days before going on there had. In addition, everything was beautifully lit. This town had a different charm as Nice - glitz and glamor, a meeting place for the rich and famous, parking for luxury cars - but was not less pleasant. Lustig was the fact that people, when they met to muster once seemed. "Hm, perhaps someone I should know? Maybe someone familiar?" My friend was delighted, of course the most is that we could take the original track (and with an Opel Corsa)! As the evening very mild and we do not take long tired, it went from Monaco / Monte Carlo on towards the Italian border, Menton. There, we strolled a little along the Beach promenade and treated ourselves to a delicious authentic Italian ice, which can not begin to compare with the ice in this country! Until long after midnight we reached our hotel in Nice and also left this evening for a glass of wine on our balcony. On this day we had visited so much of the Côte d'Azur, from Menton to Cannes (in reverse order) and always along the sea. The third day (29.05.2009) was fully provided for the further exploration of Nice. So we opted for "the great-Nice, Tour, a guided tour in an open and double-decker hop-on hop-off principle. During the trip there was an excellent audio commentary and the route covered from the really large parts of Nice. We visited for example the park and the Parc de la Colline du Château ", of which one had a fascinating view over the city and the harbor, from which one could take the ferry to Corsica. In addition, many museums and churches were on our way, such as the Musée Matisse with a private collection of Henri Matisse and the Russian Orthodox Alexander Nevskijev Cathedral. So far I knew only as Nice colorful city on the Mediterranean, but this tour gave the rich history and culture of this fascinating city. We spent the evening in a small restaurant in the old town. Especially nice was the fact that Nice lively in the evenings and was attractive. People sat in cafes and restaurants, chatted, ate, or could be, for example, from the playing of a young pianist, who had built his piano in front of the Palace of Justice, entertained. On the beach were mainly young people and relaxed before they wanted to come down to the lively nightlife of Nice. On Saturday (30.05.2009) even in the morning we strolled through the market in Old Nice Bought typical Mediterranean food and some gifts for the family before we went back to the airport, from where we started back towards home for lunch.
  • Conclusion: It was a great trip, the Cote d'Azur a wonderful, diverse neighborhood; we would like to visit in the near future. Our days were interesting, and we have seen a lot, but there are still a lot to discover more. The trip was perfectly planned, whether rental car, hotel or tour, it took us not to worry.

Accenture many interesting projects expand my skills and bring me two years ago in the young and dedicated, community of practice (CoP) "Investment Portfolio Management (IPM) is a.

be is precisely this CoP to turn this and my next two posts:

In this first article I will describe the mix of IT governance concepts and software implementation, we deal with the substance.
Following will be a presentation of three cases exciting insights into the IPM project work.

The review series ends with a description of how I work has advanced in the IPM CoP professionally and academically.

The term "IT Governance" haunts for several years by the trade press. In the widely accepted opinion, he is to guide and control of IT with the aim to make decisions in line with corporate strategy.
This general definition is obviously not very helpful, and many decision makers have problems to derive a specific guide to action.
is from this point at the CoP Investment Portfolio Management. Our goal is to give top IT decision makers the tools with which they

responsible for corporate strategy identify relevant IT decisions can

who see information necessary for a decision and may make
are up to that promise to meet us a deliberately diverse group from different areas at Accenture. There are in addition to IT strategists and colleagues focused enterprise architecture (EA), and system developers from Accenture Technology Solutions (ATS). Why is asset heterogeneity? Accenture's experience has shown that heterogeneous teams are usually composed of promising. We offer our customers Team to implement the colleagues of the ATS and EA a software-based solution in the company, which fits very closely with the conceptual tools of SITE. In addition, the work is so varied and we can all come sniff in areas that we have to date been rather strange. how everything fits together in practice? We divide the "direction and control in IT" first in three areas: structures, processes and metrics.

structures are available for a reasonable arrangement of roles, and responsibilities, for example, by bodies

processes refer to the steps in Life cycle of an IT investment (eg requesting, prioritizing, or monitoring),

metrics (KPIs) finally allow decisions to monitor in real time and allow a more timely "steering and control."

software side, we support these three areas of specific IT governance applications.

be supported by special processes such as the portfolio management capabilities to carry out a meaningful IT investment (hence the name "Investment Portfolio Management"). Or a plan with the skills of individual employees against the portfolio of potential projects considered the most cost-effective distribution to obtain project resources. Much is possible and so far we are only in very few cases ever encountered only at the borders.

It is an exciting project and more to the software functionality I will report next time Stay tuned!
Accenture Monday 11 May 2009 It's arrival. I head to the train on the way to my project site. Fortunately, I have little delay and may even just give my suitcase at the hotel. Once in office, meet me at my project manager at the reception and shows me where we sit at the customer's offices. My team consists of five colleagues. At the regular meeting I am introduced and brought on the current project status. In addition, I read me one more in project documentation. Then, my project is still in person along with me and we discuss what is expected of me, and my duties in the project. I to support a colleague during a two-day training for a sales team. It comes to us to be adjusted by SAP module. The training will take place in about three weeks. My job is to develop the concept for it.
  • Tuesday 12 May 2009
  • Just arrived in the office, my colleague provided me with further information and materials to the project. It is about analysis and reporting with SAP Business Warehouse. I read a lower. Although I know the SAP module already, but the details are not all known to me. Incidentally, I have to run it along with some administrative tasks. I need to register in the project systems and the different approaches . Apply The rest of the day is determined mainly by the construction of the concept. In between, take my colleagues always time to tell me more about the project and show me some of the work done thus far on the system.
  • Wednesday 13 May 2009
After a call because of the date of verification of the training it turns out that the date must be brought forward. The training will take place next week - but in a much shorter form. The time pressure increases. After work, I am meeting with a few colleagues to "expert-round," where we discuss in a small group of interesting problems. Although I'm not an expert, but I can learn a lot from the talks. Although it is a bit later, it is still behind the project home of a colleague. He invited us to identify with his Playstation the "Project Sing Star". Besides, you have time to also exchange views on issues other than work. Thursday 14 May 2009 Work is progressing well, the concept is growing, and it looks as if we were finished in time for training. About Accenture's internal network, I get even further helpful material I can use it as a good source. All day I work cheap and to the Power Point slides for the concept.
  • Friday 15 May 2009
  • hard to believe that the week is over. For me, it's gone by. I will check out and ride with my luggage to the office. Once there, I'm doing me right back to work. Even today, the first draft of the full plan to be finished so that it can be examined by the project management. In the next week then follows the final touches. I am already very excited to run like the training next week. For now I'm looking forward to my weekend - and then to the tasks and challenges that the project brings with it well yet.
  • Maybe we will see you soon with Accenture!

their faces one can see that the party was a complete success. After another hour of preparation, we deliver the closing presentation to our client project. Then the training is over. Our consultants say goodbye, and exchange it again all contact details, photos burned and so on. There were two exhausting but very fun days. I now feel well prepared and looking forward to my first project. Certainly I will see again some of my newly acquired contacts. The first holiday visits are already planned, and a few colleagues, I can already see the next Community meeting again. I'm now on to the airport and I hope everything goes well. write in the next few days, I think the third part of the weblog! Until then, you have a good time. Sunday 19 April 2009 must

In brilliant sunshine and blue sky in Germany I spend my time, unfortunately, train and plane. But the goal is worth: St. Charles, near Chicago. After an uneventful flight, I have come to unfortunately in pouring rain, in Chicago. Along with ten other colleagues from Accenture, we make our way to the training center in St. Charles, just outside - where we arrive early evening. Now we have to stay awake.

Monday 20 April 2009 Today it is serious. slept more or less I'll be on my way to the plenary. There welcomes all newcomers to the training manager, and by video, we see the message of Bill Green, our Chairman & CEO. After the welcome we split into groups of about 25 participants, each group is supervised by three experienced consultants. Our three are from Amsterdam, Frankfurt and Chicago.
This week I would deal with most tasks with team colleagues from various nations. The first task fosters the team spirit and the memory. Within a given time, we must create a model for a template. The template we could look at it only briefly. In the second step, the individual components are combined into one work. Here we announce the consultant instructions and tips.

lead after this first team task of our consultants on the project methodology of Accenture. The day will decide at the Club House at the training ground, where some of their colleagues karaoke skills to the test.
Tuesday 21 April 2009
Although we are all tired real, make it the consultants, to motivate us. This includes the one or the other portion of caffeine is needed. Finally, we can take off and more about working with customers and learn about customer conversations. Today we get our first fictitious customers. On his project, we will use the learned Skills for practical application.
The high point lead late in the day by our own customers a simulated conversation with a consultant. We get to know us better, there is the evening networking event. Where we all meet Accenture employees who are currently training in Chicago. Thus, the contacts made so far deepened and new ones built.
Wednesday 22 April 2009

The design of business processes is on the agenda. After a brief theoretical introduction, we must make our own project. We analyze customer documents and define business processes. The different variants and problems are discussed in the plenary, so that the whole group can learn from the experience of others. My personal performance today is a little low. Although my jet lag has not mattered, but because of U.S. air conditioning I've caught a cold.
Thursday 23 April 2009
When are the business processes we go through to requirements analysis. In the plenary session is illustrated by means of a lecture and a role-play the importance of proper requirements analysis is to get to our relevant information of our customers. This time we have more time to prepare the conversation with the customer, and the result is recorded. We are satisfied. We have received much information, and from the mistakes we made, we can learn. The day ends with a bit more theory on the subject. We have decided to spend the weekend in Chicago and therefore booked a hotel room downtown.
write in the next few days, I think the second part of the weblog! Until then, good times.

Hello,

my name is Melanie and I work almost 7 months as an analyst at Accenture. What you do as an analyst for Accenture? One thing is clear, the answer to this question will be answered differently for Accenture offers a variety of ways.

My first project has led me in the Technology Architecture.

Technology Architecture is a subregion within System Integration & Technology (SI & T) with its core competence in the Plaunung and implementation of IT architectures is. The goal of IT is constructed so that the technical possibilities, the economic business support optimal.

Within Technology Architecture, there are different specializations:

Client Architecture: Application Development for browser, desktop and mobile devices

Data Architecture: data and databases

On my project, Accenture within up 12 months, Architecture, more than 100 applications from nearly 30 independent organizations to each other.

starting point were there many, inflexible and as a whole increasingly complex

point-to-point connections. This architecture could no longer meet the demands of an ever-growing IT infrastructure with an increasing number of messages and data formats, and economic pressure for more flexibility.

was To address these challenges, an enterprise application integration (EAI) architecture based on reusable, generic services and standards implemented.

A framework is composed of granular Services different functions for security, monitoring, data transfer, etc. are available. For these Services Framework then processes are built.

This type of architecture, it allows applications to be loosely coupled and thus to respond flexibly to changes or incorporate new components. The project is supported by our delivery center in Slovakia.

  • the moment, the architecture is extended: the key components are under one part of the Organizations are distributed and guaranteeing high availability. This is also an upgrade ahead of the software used. Furthermore, the introduction of Business Activity Monitoring are (BAM) and planned a further advancement of the SOA approach.
  • In this context, there are many tasks that an analyst can do in the first 7 months, a major contribution:
  • Requirements Analysis:
  • need ahead of a new (sub) project defines the requirements for the IT architecture. In this context, meetings will be prepared with the client, implemented and evaluated. The project also plans the various departments is presented to identify possible interfaces and analysis. In our case, the continuation of an existing project, also had the requirements of the first phase to be evaluated and adjusted if necessary. The result of this work is the basis for the contract with the customer.

  • letter describes a "System Architecture Documents (SAD) SAD
The planned architecture. It must be different aspects, such as infrastructure, security, components, technologies used, and integration with other IT systems or projects to be considered. In addition, each design project to follow the reference architecture of the company. The SAD must furnish such proof. Through analysis of the requirements you have already a good basis for writing the SAD and can apply newly learned many things right.
  • planning and conducting proof of concepts To estimate the cost of certain implementation tasks of the project better, be proof of concept (PoC) is carried out. This is based on the planning of the first PoC. What components are required? What needs to be evaluated? What exactly does the PoC? What result to be achieved with the PoC? Accordingly, the design must be organized and structured development environment. This is done in close cooperation with the customer, because in most cases there are departments that are responsible for providing the required components. Once it then goes to the installation of the unique components, the project again responsible. is finally realized the PoC and document the results. There

presentations and meetings with the customer In addition, it always interfaces with other projects. As a contact of his own project represents one of this at various meetings and presentations.

In all these tasks, of course you get the necessary support from his colleagues, who are always willing to help.

Regards

Melanie

Hi

!

  1. as 1998 I started with Accenture was the only temporary. I had finished my PhD in experimental nuclear physics at last, and thought about that a consultancy is a great way to enter into professional life sniff. I wanted to get to know one way or another industry, and after about two years to start with a "real" company. A good friend recommended me Accenture (formerly Andersen Consulting).

  2. initially from the planned two have now become eleven years. As a curious generalist, I have frequently changed topics and industries, and learned a lot about software development, testing organization, systems integration and infrastructure support. Accenture has helped me to gain international experience (one year at Accenture Ireland) and am constantly confronted with interesting and challenging tasks, so that boredom never came up.

  3. In German-speaking, I am responsible for the issue of green IT that I intensively for just over two years follow.

The initial discussions on green IT focused mainly on supplying it would reduce the operation of data center power costs incurred. Only too happy this issue was taken up by hardware vendors to market modern IT hardware, the same
computing power using less energy.

Accenture is considering further the concept of Green IT: The focus on the data center operation is not wrong - it is however incomplete. We propose a holistic approach, in which five key areas are distinguished, in which IT can have a quick and demonstrable positive impact on the green agenda a company.

working conditions of employees / IT support for business processes

workplace equipment and environment

office infrastructure and data center

We first determine the current green maturity of IT in the context of the actual analysis with specially developed for this purpose tools,

the Green Maturity Model (see also www.accenture.com / gmm ) and the

Green Estimators for data centers and IT jobs

Based on the analysis results to be lifted in the second step in the green potential of IT, not least because measures are realized here (with less coordination effort) to short-term. The possibilities for this are complex and technically demanding. Among the most prominent ideas include:

server / storage / network consolidation aided by virtualization technologies

Avoiding redundant server and storage systems

optimization of the cooling infrastructure in data centers

introduction of multi-function devices for printing, faxing and copying

exchange of staff desktop PCs through the use of thin clients and a central backend

In the third step, using the green potential IT addressed across the organization. A central challenge is to win out of it out of other areas of Green IT and sustainable improvement.

Last times have I told you that it was first cast on me an 'in-town "project to Munich and how I came to the subject ITIL.
Today is leaning more towards the ridiculous traveling circus and my project progression and training.

went to Munich for me to Bratislava, where an Accenture Delivery Center operates mainly to German customers in a nearshore model Application Maintenance and Business Process Outsourcing offering. The former client wanted to build a similar model for itself in a smaller frame and Accenture was asked to support him, that suitable operating model to develop it. Together with another colleague, I was the client for three months in Bratislava on the ground to - sometimes again based on ITIL -

the internal business processes and interfaces to define the customer and to provide appropriate training materials. Besides the charm of Bratislava had to lie near Vienna, so I had the opportunity to visit friends there. My other projects from now on, turned again and again to the theme "IT Service Management". Time it was to develop a change and release management for IP-TV solution, then again to the operating processes of care for thousands of jobs
  1. or but to consolidate multiple IT departments, while aligning IT Organisation for ITIL V3. A these projects were in addition to the above ITIL-based accessible in common: they were all not in Munich and I could finally collect my out-of-town "experience.
    • Initially, this is really exciting. There are worse things than every morning a delicious breakfast buffet to enjoy the hotel to get to know different cities to collect Lufthansa Miles and redeem for one or another goodie or a car have the weekend to order on Friday from the project home and then on Monday morning to get back. At some point, then, is but happy if you can sleep in your own bed, Sunday evening and not have to pack any luggage on Monday morning at 5 clock in the morning has to go in order to be on time for the customer. More than three years I've been through this every week and enjoy it now all the more to be a few months back in Munich on a project at the IT subsidiary of insurance. Here is just a consolidation in the European data centers to migrate to run in local companies in the German IT infrastructure data center. As a result, the IT service provider is now aligned as a shared service provider in order to European customers to also use it accordingly.
  2. addition to the normal project business can be set in our company and one or the other "hobbies" to also devote time to another topic. are for me the areas Recruiting and ITIL training that will give me a little variety. In the recruiting environment, I help with the selection days are held regularly and in conducting telephone interviews or even in the care of undergraduates who write their theses in Accentureprojekten. Thus, it is not boring, I have alongside a colleague for a course for the ITIL Foundation certificate attached, which we do now sure to stop by his own colleagues on different projects in order to certify them accordingly.

You see, there is next to the actual project work, a number of other issues on which we can take care if you like.

    • So much for this time in the next week it goes for me again to St. Charles to spend my "Core Manager School", which I then like to report here

    • My name is Sven Bastian and I to you shall in the next weeks an insight into my life as a consultant and give my experience so far share with you.
best I'll start at the very beginning:

  1. near completion of my degree in business computer science in October 2002 I am for the first time on a recruiting event in contact with Accenture come. Since I had completed my studies but at a vocational college (BA), I decided at that time because of the economic situation for the time being at my current employer BA remain to collect a little more experience. In summer 2003, but then I got a call from Accenture, if I was still interested in a job as a management consultant. I said yes, went through the application process, including the obligatory selection day and got so within a short time a contract proposal submitted. I took this offer to you and started in January 2004 as an analyst at Accenture.

After graduation and the first experience in Munich, I had to be sent to the urge to go out into the world to meet as many companies with their large and small challenges . However, I staggered the first project to Munich, or rather, I could stay in Munich, which at the beginning I did not found so great. At least I had They started it in counseling, from which one always hears how often you are traveling on the plane and stayed in hotels as a permanent guest. Far from it!

My first project I staggered on an outsourcing deal for SAP Application Maintenance to a suburb of Munich. Accordingly, I was not traveling by plane but went nicely with a MVV-month card in the S-Bahn to the customer. My job was to mediate in a 4-person support team in Munich between the customer and our three delivery centers in Bratislava, Manila, and Wilmington, a monthly service Report on the services provided by Accenture to create power and maintain the existing processes between them. In this context, I was also the first time in contact with the subject of ITIL. So far I had indeed already a helpdesk, an Incident process, and a Service Level Agreement - SLA short - is one, but never produced in the overall context, in what was then the ITIL Version 2. As a collection of best practices for IT service management (ITSM), ITIL is the de facto standard and is the basis for activities in the infrastructure. Around the same time when the customer took up the issue began to set up appropriate training and Accenture. It was found that I was just able to match the project use a 2-day training for ITIL Foundation Certificate and in this way the learned in theory apply directly to my project. So that "my" foundation for the topic "ITIL" was laid, I have expanded in the following projects and few years.

Accenture as turbulent, the next one. Because suddenly I received inquiries from two projects with very different tasks. I decided to fast for a project. Unfortunately, the assignment is not worked out right away, so that some conversations were only necessary until I "my" project could. In that time I learned to appreciate very much my Counselor, who stood by me with help and advice.

For a computer scientist and former software developer, it is not self-evident that one deals with such tangible things such as servers, storage systems and industrial air conditioners. On the contrary, but the rapidly changing technologies in data centers at universities are very difficult to convey. This was also the reason why I was with my initial first used as a technical architect of a Java application. Here, I could use to develop my knowledge of software development step by step to create a concept of operation with a focus on backup and recovery, and monitoring and.

My former supervisor was an absolute specificity in this area and also a very good coach. He helped me to my job rapidly to other areas of management to expand. So I learned from him the ITIL processes incident management know, problem management, capacity management and configuration management and is able to fill in on this project already in practice. That was a good preparation for the certification of the theoretical "ITIL Foundation.

As a collection of best practices for IT service management (ITSM), ITIL is the de facto standard and is the basis for our activities in the area of infrastructure. sufficient for a successful consultant these basics but not out: either to specialize in these ITIL processes and can be our customers with the introduction and continuous improvement in support of their IT service management, or you focus on the technologies, is provided with which the IT service. Where do you want to develop within Accenture is relatively arbitrary. I was clearly leading provider of Data Center Technologies to be one as it turned out extremely exciting field.

away inland Landau, the companies address the fact that the rosy times are over and the first belt-tightening be. Some discussion then drag the individual record, without giving an answer, then by what employees or structural, technological changes may be made. At the same time you wasted in the data center every year millions of hardware maintenance for old Unix machines is memory technologies that are neither scalable nor memory-efficient and produced with age, a lot of underutilized hardware power consumption of a steel mill (figuratively speaking). Could be better, right?.

fact, we see many of our customers first steps for change in this situation. Often However, lack of cross-departmental approach to optimization, so that the cost savings remain far below the possibilities. For example, to introduce the storage department of a company like a tiered storage model, but do not know the requirements that the faculties of the data. During the storage administrator of LUNs and RAID groups, speaks speak a different language departments. An optimal distribution of data to the individual animal is so very difficult, cost savings are falling short of the stated objectives.

When another customer wanted the Department of workstations most of the PCs to migrate with VMware virtualized desktops. Was the increased number of virtual machines (VM) increased memory requirements in the SAN but not timely communicated to the planning of the storage department, so that storage cabinets were obtained, which met early on to their limits. A classic bad investment.

These are just two examples as they occur in everyday working life of an infrastructure consultant. But the communicative to bridge the gap between the different departments is an object. In my next blog I'll discuss as we do for our customers after an assessment of the infrastructure landscape have created a catalog of technical measures that make the infrastructure future proof and flexible and provides the medium term savings of over 20% in view. Support for implementation of the measures included, of course. Accenture Management says, "where we have shown how security issues (no overall coordination of security issues, not an IT risk management, etc.) by an ISMS (Information Security Management System), ISO 27001 and IT basic protection from the BSI (Federal Office for Security in Information Technology) can be overcome. Other common security problems that many companies are affected such as "ineffective" security organizations, no common understanding of information security (Security Awareness), and no standardized, well-known and "active" security policies (security policies, guidelines, Standards, etc) within the company. My name is Marcus Dahlén Mjölby and I come from, a very small country town not far from Vättern and about 2 hours south of Stockholm in Sweden. I am in Germany for about 5 years and specialized for about 3 years at Accenture in the technology consulting, on security. How I came to Accenture here in Germany went on an Erasmus exchange at the RWTH Aachen, where I in exchange year and had then in my dissertation the focus on IT security. For me, it was therefore quite natural for Accenture in IT security to enter.

What makes Accenture's Security? Accenture provides "security services" mainly in five areas:

1. Security Risk Management - Assessing and managing security risks and vulnerabilities

2. Infrastructure Security - Securing the technology and network infrastructure

3. Business Continuity Management - Providing business continuity and disaster recovery

4. Enterprise Application Security - Securing enterprise applications

5. Identity & Access Management - Managing identity and access

I wanted to briefly introduce a project in the field "Security Risk Management," which I made last year.

went on the project for security management at a major automotive manufacturer. The client had a good safety levels, many security policies (Information Security Policy, Email Policy, etc.) were missing and many IT-security measures (network security, etc) are implemented.

in the organization lacked a unified approach to information security. Security has changed in recent years from a focus on IT security to an IT-wide information security. Information security involves not only the IT department, taking into account not only the IT aspects, but also deals with the confidentiality, integrity and availability of all information - whether electronic, magnetic, or analog. 1)

security organization

: There should be a dedicated safety organization be established, which are risks, safety measures, quality control, etc. care. We have the role of "Information Security Officer (ISO)," Data Protection Officer (DPO), "Physical Security Officer (PSO) and Chief Security Officer (CSO) established. was given a "Security Forum", which takes care across to safety and managed by the CSO.

2)

Information Security Management System (ISMS)

: To set up the ISMS, the established processes to continuously to identify risks, assess and implement measures thereof. Furthermore, the risk assessments are carried out regularly to also verify that your already-implemented measures are successful. An ISMS is therefore an ongoing process rather than a one-time implementation. The ISMS is implemented by the security organization with support from the organization. We have used ISO 27001 (Information Security Management System) and ISO 27002 (Code of practice for ISMS) and BSI Baseline Protection Manual and BSI standards (Federal Office for Security in Information Technology). I will in my next blog more about ISO 27001 and how to used to write.

through structured and regular risk analysis and planning of security measures according to ISO and BSI standards, it is possible to achieve security of investment. This means that you can not spend too little or too much money on security measures. With a functioning security organization and a ISMS an organization able to control their risks is continuously under economic aspects.

If you take any questions on IT security with Accenture or camping and canoeing in Sweden have, I am happy to help.

My last post is already but a while back. This is simply because I found the project life and often have little time to do extra work. But nevertheless it's fun!

Last time I had reached the end of the Orientation Day, then come now so my first real day J
I had some questions ... Should I go to the office, I can make training what options there are for? All this should be able to tell me my counselor, I also called first. He suggested to first take some training. Whether at home or I wanted to do in the office, was left to myself.

Since I had not seen the Munich office until then, I opted for the office and booked me a seat. Book a place? That's right! Since we are the most time on the road projects and the customer's premises, the Accenture offices are not classical offices where everyone has his desk. So would you want to work in the office, to book a place just beforehand. So I gathered up my belongings and went full of curiosity towards Maximilianstrasse.

where I stayed the whole day and finished the first online training. Of which there are loads. Some of them are a must, which everyone must pass according to his level or his affiliation. In addition, you can do more training. This is what every time a certain quota available ...
Besides the training there were some organizational things to do - order a phone and business cards, internal project "resume", etc. Leave The day went by so fast ...

Accenture could. Also: Take a meaningful application portfolio with which you can make for interesting company. I was asked, for example, after talking to let my application right there. Three weeks after the Absolventenkongress an agreed date for a phone interview. Here are questions asked in particular to my CV and I was able to ask many questions about working at Accenture. After a successful phone interview, I was invited to a selection day to Kronberg. Our expertise has been tested in various group exercises and individual interviews. The atmosphere was all along very well and there was a lively exchange with consultants from Accenture and the other participants instead. That same day I received an offer and was in March this year to join as an analyst with Accenture to work. My first few months were very exciting and varied. Working life begins at Accenture for all new employees with a three-week training at headquarters in Kronberg. There, one learns basic methods for future work everyday and refreshed as a management consultant at once some business management principles. In teams, we also conducted case studies and presentations created. After three weeks, it went straight for another two weeks into the training center to St. Charles in the USA. Here are all the new Accenture employees worldwide cooperation. During these two weeks were my colleagues and I get to know the basis of a fictitious company, the process steps of a consulting project. Teamwork played a decisive role here, as each task had to be solved together. After I had returned from the USA, I could immediately pack your bags, because it went straight for a week to Barcelona for my first project. Currently I work for a company in the pharmaceutical industry and support the customers in the implementation of a CRM system. Here I am working on both the functional implementation of the business requirements of the system and in the preparation of training materials for users of the system. As a business speaker No IT background, it was particularly at the beginning of a great challenge to acquire the technical know-how. But through the intense training you will be very well prepared for the future project work and particularly through the joint work with colleagues to learn a lot.

In my first post, I told something about the recruiting process for Experienced Hires at ATS. If you're in the midst or even intending to apply for, that's for sure everything exciting and interesting. I felt the same way. Since it does not help if I say now, remains relaxed, which is already, right? If in doubt, simply use the contact details and ask all the colleagues are really very helpful and nice. It is important to know what can and what you want. If you still fit into the team, can really go wrong. And that's the point in the whole process ...

I had done so. The contract documents were signed pretty quickly and found their way back just as quickly. My start was nothing in the way ... While I still enjoyed a few days off, I got by and by the first mail with information about when I should be where.

Each new employee at Accenture, begins with the "Orientation Day" in Kronberg - two days in which an oversight Accenture wins. After these two days, it goes on individually, but more on that later. Even on the train I looked, whether I would discover new peers. Indeed, in the train from Frankfurt to Kronberg were then quite a few. So together we found ourselves on Monday morning at 10:00 a clock at the reception, looking forward to what awaits us the next day. At forty people, we were almost in a cozy little round, usually there are probably a hundred new starters in the month - across all workforces and career level.

What followed can be described in one word: information overload! We were given many lectures on various topics. What and how is Accenture, how is the organization that are time charged, travel management, and more ...

Somehow everything quite strange. As if you to a seminar and then moves back to its usual environment. That's all part of the new employer and now we can include that we did not want to really in the head ...

between there was plenty of coffee breaks, which already have been diligently socialize - the A and O at Accenture. Make contacts, build their network ... At first I asked myself, how I probably could rightly so, now I know it's not as hard as it seems at the beginning. In the evening there was a dinner before we were then taken to the hotel. Once there I fell quite quickly into bed, it was a long day and the second was early begin ...

During the first day was very still in theory, the second day designed a little more varied. The laptops were distributed, and cleared the first organizational things. Curiously, of course, we looked for our emails. Around me were all about their counselors - get, sometimes even from this very welcome news - the colleague who will accompany you and your way forward with Accenture. My mailbox was empty ... This was, unfortunately, that I, in contrast to the other already leave on this day had to. For me as an Experienced Hire initially no training was provided. Almost everyone else was still in front of various training programs, some in Kronberg, partly in St. Charles, depending on which region they belonged to.

At this point, I felt the first time something is lost. No idea what would happen the next day or where to turn towards me. I knew I had to see for projects than is available now and should not have to worry. "The first project will find you, "says ... Another phrase I heard often:" Enjoy the next few days, so quiet, it will never again ". Correct way. Both.

But ... on the day it was a situation in which I was not feeling well and I left with some doubts back home. Once there I was browsing for a while in Accenture's network. By chance I found out as well as my counselor and decided to call him immediately the next day. I was back a bit more confident and was looking forward to my first "real" day.

how it went ... then the next time Accenture Accenture Technology Solutions I would like you to participate with this blog.

made the last few months, the idea with me wide that I have other ideas about my other Working life and I do not have my current job completes. I wanted more. More variety, more challenges, I wanted to learn more and be on the road - but where to start? The market is large, the service industry. The crucial point for me to apply for

Accenture Technology Solutions

was ultimately a personal recommendation of a friend. Finally, he knew the other side and he knew my wishes. Before I finally sending the application, however, still passed days where I stayed for hours on the websites of Accenture. But the more I read and heard, the more I wanted you there. End of May, I sent my Online application from - the starting gun.

a few days later I received a call from a colleague today, to schedule a phone interview a few days later identify. Until then, I prepared myself well. What can I do what I want to forget the inevitable strengths and weaknesses ... but nothing. The interview was very pleasant. My companion introduced himself and told me about his daily work at

Accenture Technology Solutions

. The telephone interview is that is not from colleagues in the work area and out of the personnel department. We obtain an idea of his possible future workplace and the colleague gets an impression of oneself, such as whether it would fit into the team, etc. In this interview already clarified basic requirements such as willingness to travel and English. This should bring you absolutely ...

The conversation lasted about three quarters of an hour, was then waiting again. Interested inquiries from friends, because even if I had heard something that made it any easier, quite the contrary. In retrospect, however, everything went very fast, because not a week later I received the next call with an invitation to interview at Kronberg.

here differs from the way of Experienced Hires. You have to go through any final day run more but "only" a conversation with several colleagues. There are also a conversation with a senior executive as the consultants are not ...

So I drove on the day in the morning full of expectations both Frankfurt and Kronberg. Shortly after my arrival I was taken by three men in the reception and off we went. A colleague was on recruiting, the other two from the department. One of them had only an observer role, he will take over later, even the role of the interviewer. In my view, another benefit of Accenture - It is also next to the actual work multiple tasks and roles, can accept it.

Also this conversation was very friendly, although the professional part in the meantime I had the feeling that they know nothing. After about one and a half hours, went back to colleagues for consultation. Never before I came 15 minutes before so long. I noticed suddenly a hundred things I would have to say. And what do I do if I am not taken? Incredible how much thought a short time in this buzzing through my head ... But in the end everything went well. I received my offer directly, and left beaming with joy the campus for home.

How it went ... read more in the next blog.

Hello!

am now already more than a week back from the CAS (Core Analyst School) - Accenture is available for all a short cut. The time there was packed incredibly tightly with training, meet people and have fun. I was fortunate enough to meet one evening a manager who is in the same group - CHT (Communication and High Tech) - NOG (Network Offering Group), that means I was my first point of contact in a professional Accenture - find network.

What surprised me was the first contact, we met in the lobby of the Q-Center, He was immediately answer any questions open and has a lot of talks about his work. The hierarchy difference was never an issue and the conversation climate was not always very personal formal as I had learned from long-established leaders from other companies.

Now I am in the Vienna office, which is on the top floor of the Stock Exchange placed on the ring - really a fascinating building and wait for my first project. The time until then I use my skills in order to acquire this purpose I can use the platform provided by Accenture. It is really impressive what topics you can find something there that online courses are on fire and thus offer an insight into the latest technological developments.

Counselor
, you both are provided by HR (Human Resources) to the side. The mentor is already about 1-2 years at Accenture and at the same level like you, he is the first contact person for questions. The Counselor

is two levels further (in my case manager) and will help you on your career path, this is the contact person to support your development. I was able to meet my future project managers - the subject is really exciting and I'm looking forward to the challenge, but unfortunately the project is not yet completely fixed.
